A panel on “Constructing a Theory of Turkish Music Based on Practice by Traditional Masters” will be presented to showcase a current movement in Turkey centered on Turkish makam music. Panelists are to address the issue of significant ‘dissonance’ between existing theoretical models and practice.
Seven panelists from various institutions pioneering the said movement, including a visiting scholar at IAM from the US, will present their case and contributions, plus work in progress.
The panel is to be held at the Congress Center, Room B on October 31, 2012 at 13:30 hours. It is expected to run up to 17:00 o’clock.
