We are pleased to invite you to the 21st session of our “Learn & Connect: 5.40 Lecture Series,” which will be held as part of the METU Promotion Days on Thursday, 30 July 2026, at 4:40 p.m. Our guest speaker will be Prof. Dr. Görkem Günbaş from the Department of Chemistry, who will deliver a talk entitled “Beyond Better Spears: The Curiosity Behind Every Cure and Every Kilowatt.”
The lecture will explore the pivotal role of curiosity-driven basic research in advancing science and technology. Drawing on examples from his research in synthetic organic chemistry, Prof. Günbaş will demonstrate how investigations inspired by scientific curiosity can ultimately contribute to the development of molecules for brain cancer treatment and organic materials for next-generation solar cells.
Following the seminar, we will continue with the “Connect” session over refreshments in the Main Foyer.
