The 20th session of our “Learn & Connect: 5.40 Lecture Series” will take place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 5:40 p.m. in Kemal Kurdaş Hall of the METU Culture and Convention Center.
In this session, Assoc. Prof. Urartu Özgür Şafak Şeker from the Department of Biological Sciences will join us with his talk, “Synthetic Biology: Engineering Life.”
Synthetic biology, which aims not only to understand living organisms but also to redesign them to address some of humanity's most pressing challenges, has emerged as one of today's most exciting fields of research. In this talk, we will explore the transformation of the life sciences, from advances in health technologies to the future of biotechnology.
Following the seminar, we will continue with the “Connect” part of the event over light refreshments, creating an opportunity to engage in conversation and exchange ideas with fellow members of the METU community from across different disciplines.
