BS 715: Construction Informatics

CATALOG DEFINITION

Construction is an information intensive business. Information technology (IT) now affects the way business is done in many life cycle stages (e.g. design, construction, procurement, etc.) of a construction project.

This course provides an introduction to the topic of ’construction informatics’ and demonstrates how IT could facilitate construction business.

The course starts with the definition and the scope of construction informatics and then introduces various topics of construction IT.

By the end of this course, students are expected to:

• Understand the impact of IT on construction project life cycle;
• Analyse the current nature of the construction industry in terms of information management capabilities;
• Understand different visions identified for construction information technology;
• Understand various IT solutions that could facilitate construction business;
