In EnglishThere are some clubs which are active
in Ankara, capital of Turkey; Middle East Tech. Uni. and Bilkent Uni. Go Clubs. I also
prepared with my brother first go pages on web in Turkish for METU Go Club in
1996. There are 4-5 persons who are dan level players in
Turkey. And I also heard that some people in the Turkish War Academy
and in the Police Force were playing that game.
In Istanbul you
can play go at Cihangir in a cafe called Kahvedan. Very close to
Taksim, 5 min. by walk.
| For my last two months (April-May 2000) in Japan I again started to play go. I am especially thankful for Yu Kumano for her help to find me this club, Koba Sensei manager of the Kurokami Igo Club and Nasu and Ibaraki San members of the Kumamoto University Igo Club. Kumamoto Uni. Igo Club doesn't have any separate room to play go, instead they are playing in Kurokami Go Club, 3 min. by foot from the uni. One month fee is 1200 Yen (around US $11) for uni. students, and one day is 600 Yen for non students. Atmosphere of the club is very friendly, and it was the most relaxing place that I had in Kumamoto. Boulder Tengoku was another nice place to increase your bouldering and climbing abilities with Akimoto San. You can appreciate green tea prepared and served by Koba Sensei while you are playing your game. And sometimes you can also eat sweet potatoes (imo) which has been prepared on the kerosene heater or get some chocolate from Imamura San. I got the chance to play with very strong players for western standards. Generally 3rd. dan for university student's players and over 5th. dan for older persons. There is also a girl of 4 years old, Nana chan who is 9 kyu whom I got a pleasure to play also. If you have enough ability to understand japanese you can easily reach there 1st dan (shodan) level in 6 month. One of my japanese friend, Ibaraki San, reached 3rd dan level just in 1 year. I am really thankful for everyone in the Kurokami Igo Club. |
Here are some photos taken in Kurokami Igo club in Kumamoto City, South of Kyushu Island.
Below you are going to find some
pictures of Kumamoto Uni. ryugakusei (foreign students) Juan Sensei
(Spain) (white shirt) and Hermann (France) playing go on the way to
picnic when we were lost and giving a lunch break nearby of a cemetery.
And during the picnic.
I have also some pictures that I took during a trip in South Korea. The first one is a go equipment seller in Pussan, south of South Korea. The final one is a fine but compared to Japan a cheap go shop in Seoul.
