Catalogue Description

The course aims at introducing basic theories and empirical evidence about human stress response. Focusing on transactions between mind and body and between persons and environments, the course intends to examine how physiological, psychological, social and cultural factors come together to influence what people perceive as stressful and how they cope with it. The course also involves practical applications of various emotion and problem focused coping skills.

Psy 100 or Psy 101

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the students should be able to

  1. Define and differentiate related terminology on stress and coping
  2. Describe how stress and coping have been studied in the scientific arena
  3. Discuss different stress and coping theories
  4. Discuss physiological and cultural aspects of stress and coping
  5. Understand the role of stress and coping style in health issues
  1. Design and apply a stress management program for various stressful situations
