By the completion of this course, students should have a picture of what a clinical psychologist does as well as the education and training required to become a clinical psychologist. To understand the current discipline and its issues, students will be exposed to a brief history of the field as well as the activities of clinical interviewing, psychological testing, and psychotherapy through reading, class discussion, and experiential exercises. Exposure to current issues in relation to professionalism will be provided through journal assignments.
We sometimes have practitioner guests from either clinical psychology or psychiatry area. These guests, after presenting their area of interest and their routine applications in their institution, answer students' questions. You are free to criticise or to ask any question to them without forgetting that they are our guests. Discussing with those guests should give you the ideas about motivating factors of a clinician at work, problems in cooperation among clinical professionals, regulations and ethics on practicing, as well as the facilities of mental health institutions.
I always use popular movie films, their vivid images in our memories to discuss about the applications of clinical psychology. The main purpose of these discussions is to make sense of common-sense approach to clinical themes.
