Guidelines for Application to School of Foreign Languages

 

  1. Job specifications

METU NCC SFL is seeking highly qualified instructors of EFL, who are expected to contribute to the maintenance of high standards of tuition at METU NCC SFL.

Employment at METU NCC SFL is on a full-time basis. Along with teaching up to 20 hours a week, instructors may also undertake administrative duties and be involved in other job-related duties such as course/program/materials development, test production and teacher training/development activities.

At the beginning of each academic year, all new colleagues attend the Induction Program, which aims to support them in their adjustment to METU NCC and the SFL.

  1. Being successful in all stages of the METU NCC SFL Instructor Recruitment Exam
  2. MA,  MEd or MSc in a field related to ELT, a certificate in ELT . Minimum degree requirement is a BA/BS degree or one to be obtained in June 2009
  3. Experience in teaching English at university level
  4.  Scores in standardized graduate admission tests such as; ALES (for Turkish speaking candidates), GRE, GMAT
  5. Cambridge ESOL Teaching Awards teacher training certification and experience (to be considered for teacher training positions)

Please note that METU NCC does not process applications from instructors who have been affiliated to another higher education institution in the TRNC in the 2008-2009 Academic Year.

Documents to be submitted

Applicants must include the following documents in their application:

1.     An up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV),

2.     A covering letter,

3.     A contact list of at least two academic/professional referees.

(Applications with missing documents will not be considered).

Curriculum Vitae (or, resume)

The CV should include:

  • A JPEG photo
  • Current full contact details
  • Full details of post-high school educational background and qualifications
  • Outline of professional experience

Covering Letter

In their covering letters, applicants may explain briefly how their educational background, qualifications and teaching experience might be suitable for the applied position.

 List of academic/professional Referees

Applicants should include full contact details of at least two academic/professional referees who can vouch for their teaching and/or academic qualities. References will only be requested directly from the referees if an applicant is short listed.

Submission of the application

The documents for application MUST comprise (1) covering letter (2) CV including the details requested and (3) a list of academic/professional referees. You should include each document as a Word file attachment labeled as follows :

‘Covering Letter – YOURFULLNAME’

‘CV – YOURFULLNAME’

‘Referees – YOURFULLNAME’

Copies of qualifications, certificates, letters of reference, and other additional documents are not required at this stage.

In the evaluation process, all applications are screened with a view to the requirements for appointment. The applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to take the METU NCC SFL Instructor Recruitment Examination.

  1. METU NCC Instructor Recruitment Examination

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take the METU NCC SFL Instructor Recruitment Examination, which will take place at the following venues.

Venue 1: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, METU NCC SFL

Written Exam :                                                                     June 20th, 2009, 10:00

Interview and Demo Lesson:                                               June 25th– 26th, 2009

Venue 2:  Turkey,  METU Ankara Campus, Department of Basic English

Written Exam :                                                                     June 20th, 2009, 10:00

Interview and Demo Lesson:                                               June 21st – 22 rd, 2009

METU NCC SFL administers a three stage recruitment exam. The first stage mainly aims to assess the language proficiency  (through grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing components) of the candidates. The candidates who are successful in the first stage are invited for an interview and a demo lesson, which aim to test the oral language proficiency, methodological awareness and teaching skills of the candidates. The interview and the demo lesson take place consecutively on the same day.

 

 

  1. Appointment

Candidates who are accepted to positions will be appointed to the positions as of the beginning of September.
