Workshop on Geometric Morphometrics:

Geometric morphometrics is a fast developing field that is opening up new possibilities for the interpretation of shape in organisms. In the last decade or so, significant advances have taken place in this method and its applications. Geometric morphometrics makes use of differences in shape of organisms by transforming the data into coordinates observed at diagnostic sites, known as landmarks, on the organism. As an improvement over more traditional approaches, this approach can successfully separate size and shape components. Geometric morphometrics can be useful in many fields, including systematics, ecology, anthropology and medicine.

The objective of this meeting is to bring together researchers and graduate students from Southeast Europe and the Middle East with well-known experts from the field of geometric morphometrics in a week-long workshop. The workshop will be presented in a lecture and laboratory format where lectures are followed by practical sessions in data acquisition, use of shape analysis software and statistical analysis. The workshop is limited to 20 students.

As a result of this intensive workshop, participants are expected to improve their understanding and knowledge of the subject, interact freely with the experts, and work on their own data sets. This will also be a possibility for forging collaborative relations among researchers from various countries in the region.

The workshop is sponsored by
Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey

and
Middle East Technical University

Also thanks to
EUROPT, GANTENBEIN and PRIZMA for their support
