The half circle and crescent shapes on the METU emblem represents the same crescents found in most of the middle eastern countries' flags. The intersected circles represent the bond between the eastern and western civilizations.
The distance between the centers of two circles with equal diameters must be 1/5th of their diameter. In colored printing, flag red should be used and the red crescent should appear in the left handside of the emblem.
