ABOUT THE CONTEST

METU NCC Center for Sustainability (CfS) proudly presents the Green Brain of the Year Contest with the support of Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems (SEES) Graduate Program, in order to serve the most critical needs of our globe in the 21st century.

Junior Green Brain of the Year Contest accepts submissions from high school students. The contest is also known as the International Concept Project Competition (ICPC), and emphasizes original concepts. The competitors are expected to form a team of 2 to 4 members, develop an original concept for a project to tackle a sustainability problem. The team should submit their work in BOTH of the following formats:

A. Paper

The work should be submitted as a properly formatted paper of up to 1000 words in English or Turkish according to the provided ICPC guide. A limited number of figures and a table can be used to describe the addressed problem, the conceptualized solution as a system and/or a process flow.

B. Narrated Video

There should be a YouTube link at the end of the submitted paper to a narrated video that visually summarizes the important aspects of the concept solution in no more than 2 minutes. There should be a consent statement in the last screen of the video such as: "The following participants in this video provide their consent to be recorded for submission to METU NCC Green Brain Contest 2021:" and the names of all contributors to the video recording should be listed.

Please note the following:

  •  Each member of the group must speak in the video.
  •  It is up to the members to decide for how long each member speaks.
  •  You may not go over two minutes in video length.
  •  The video must clearly communicate the aims (what problem is the group trying to solve), the justification (the relevance of the idea to sustainability/why this idea was chosen), the originality, feasibility, and the impact of the proposed solution.
  •  The mode of delivery is as important as the content delivered. Clarity, parsimony, and creativity are highly encouraged.

The electronic submissions to the ICPC web site will be evaluated by a jury panel based on:

  1. Problem Relevance to Sustainability,
  2. Originality, Feasibility, and Impact of Concept Solution,
  3. Quality of Communication in terms of Writing, Illustrations, and Video.
